Weight Management & Wellbeing Guide

Overview & Core Pillars of Weight Management
A gentle, whole-person approach to weight management looks at nutrition, activity, sleep and stress alongside supportive treatments. Rather than relying on restrictive fad diets or spot-reduction promises, the focus is on sustainable everyday habits and on understanding factors such as blood sugar, hormones, metabolism and fluid retention. Changes vary a great deal from person to person.
- Metabolism & Energy: Resting metabolism and daily activity both affect how much energy you use, and regular movement and strength work help support them.
- Localised Areas of Concern: Many people come with an area that hasn't changed with diet and exercise, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs. No treatment removes fat from one spot, but gentle lymphatic work may help with fluid and a feeling of heaviness.
- Skin & Tissue Comfort: Some people seek care for skin and tissue that feel heavy, tight or uncomfortable after weight changes, and gentle techniques are used with the aim of supporting tissue health.
- Hormones & Blood Sugar: Blood glucose, cortisol and the appetite hormones leptin and ghrelin all influence hunger and energy, which is why regular meals, sleep and stress care can help.
- Preserving Lean Muscle: Strength work and enough protein are commonly recommended to help maintain muscle while you change your eating habits.
- Lymphatic Support & Fluid Retention: Gentle lymphatic techniques are used with the aim of easing fluid congestion and a feeling of puffiness.
- Long-Term Sustainable Habits: Practical nutrition, exercise and lifestyle ideas you can keep using in everyday life.
Core Components of a Weight Management Plan
- Metabolic Assessment: An initial assessment may look at resting metabolic rate (RMR), body fat percentage, visceral fat rating and relevant health markers.
- Personalised Nutritional Planning: Macronutrient balance, a modest calorie deficit where appropriate, and meal timing such as time-restricted eating, tailored to you.
- Hormonal Health: Thyroid function, insulin sensitivity, sex hormones and stress can all influence fat distribution, so it can be worth discussing these with your GP.
- Progressive Resistance & Cardio Training: Structured routines combining strength and cardio, designed to support daily energy use and help preserve lean muscle.
Supportive Treatments in the Clinic
No treatment removes fat from one spot, and Kylie won't suggest otherwise. Alongside your nutrition and movement plan, some people like gentle treatments for the fluid, heaviness and tissue discomfort that can come with weight changes:
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage — Slow, light, rhythmic Dr Vodder techniques designed to encourage fluid movement through the tissue. Many people find it eases puffiness and a heavy feeling.
- Pneumatic Compression — Sleeves that fill and release in a wave along the legs, used with the aim of easing fluid retention and tired, heavy legs.
- Hivamat Deep Oscillation — A gentle electrostatic vibration through the tissue, used with the aim of softening firm areas and supporting circulation through the legs and abdomen.
- Low Level Laser Therapy — Non-thermal laser light applied over the tissue, used within treatments with the aim of supporting tissue health.
Everyday Nutrition for General Wellbeing
A sustainable approach to eating focuses on nutrient-dense whole foods and, where appropriate, a modest, comfortable calorie deficit.
Dietary Focus Areas
- High-Biological-Value Proteins: Lean poultry, fish, eggs and plant proteins, which help you feel full and support muscle.
- Fibre-Rich Complex Carbohydrates: Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables and legumes, which help keep blood sugar steady and feed the gut microbiome.
- Healthy Essential Fats: Avocados, olive oil and nuts, which the body uses in hormone production and cell signalling.
Foods Worth Limiting
- Ultra-Processed Refined Sugars: These can cause sharp rises in blood sugar and may leave you hungrier soon after.
- Liquid Calories & Sugary Beverages: Easy to drink without noticing, and they tend not to leave you feeling full.
Exercise & Everyday Activity
A balanced mix of strength training, cardio and everyday movement, known as NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis), is a common recommendation. Start gently, and check with your GP if you're new to exercise or managing a health condition.
Strength & Resistance Training
- Compound Movements: Squats, deadlifts, presses and rows performed 3-4 times weekly to build and maintain muscle.
- Progressive Overload: Gradually increasing weight or resistance to support muscle tone and bone density.
Cardiovascular & Daily Activity
- Zone 2 Cardio: Steady-state aerobic activity (e.g., brisk walking, cycling) at a comfortable, conversational pace, which supports heart and metabolic health.
- Daily NEAT Goals: A daily step target (8,000–10,000 steps) is a simple way to keep everyday movement up.
Pre-Treatment & Preparation Guidelines
Before Your Weight Consultation or Session:
- Medical History Review: Be ready to talk about your goals, health and metabolic history, previous weight loss attempts and any medications.
- Hydration Status: Aim for good daily water intake (around 2-3 litres, unless your doctor has advised otherwise) in the days before your session.
- Avoid Skin Irritants: Avoid heavy lotions, self-tanners or strong sun exposure on the areas to be treated.
- Comfortable Attire: Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to treatment areas without rubbing afterwards.
After Your Session & At-Home Care
What to Expect After a Session
Many people feel lighter and more relaxed after a session, and some notice they need the toilet more often for a day or so as fluid moves. Any changes in how your body looks or feels tend to be gradual and vary widely from person to person. Please let your clinician know if anything concerns you.
At-Home Maintenance Actions
- Gentle Massage: Light circular massage on treated areas, only if your clinician recommends it, to encourage lymphatic flow.
- Consistent Hydration: Keep drinking water regularly through the day.
- Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Keep up the nutrition and movement habits that suit you, whatever your goals.
Follow-Up Scheduling & Ongoing Support
Tracking your progress over time, including periodic body composition reviews, can help you see how you're going. If it would help, you're welcome to book a follow-up assessment or check-in to talk through how you're feeling and whether your plan still suits you.

Every case is different. What suits you depends on your history, your surgeon’s instructions and what Kylie finds at your assessment — so please treat this as background rather than a personal treatment plan. If anything here raises a question, call 0408 948 817.
